Hidden among the stories in our weekly newspaper is another story slowly unfolding. Advertisements, when viewed over the span of decades reveals much about the character of a community and its times.
When doing research for other Maynard Historical Society presentations, I've always been fascinated by the advertisements. Here are a series of ads taken from local newspapers during the first half of the 20th century. For the most part the ads are for Maynard businesses, although there are a few exceptions here and there.
The presentation attempts to highlight the various social and technological changes that occurred in the United States (and Maynard) from the dawn of the 20th century till the 1960's.
